 The demand for good overseas salmon fishing appears to be higher than normal for 2019 and as such availability over prime weeks is in short supply. A selection of great locations with some available dates are listed below.

Chile - Austral River Lodge

 WWMF took an exploratory trip to chase the Austral Kings in 2016, culminating in this simply enormous King Salmon caught by Steve Edge. Looking back at the trip we certainly headed forth into the unknown. What we uncovered was a potentially magical destination but we were under resourced and under-experienced to really make good of the opportunity. Since then a lot has changed!!

In combination with Salmon Junkies, WWMF are very excited to be able to offer places to this unique destination, one that is as transfixing for the surroundings as it is for the quarry!

ATLANTIC SALMON RESERVE 

Kharlovka/Litza -Week 29 - 13-20 July 2019

Fate has conspired against me over the last 2 seasons, preventing my annual pilgrimage to the Atlantic Salmon Reserve. That will not happen in 2019!!!

For 2019 the ASR has close to a 90% re-booking rate which has meant there are very very few opportunities left to secure a space. Despite trickier than normal conditions this year, due to the hot summer, the fishing and experience on the rivers of the ASR remains of the highest caliber. Seasons vary dramatically from year to year, and that is the undeniable lottery of salmon fishing. In 2017 the story was very very different in 2018. Over Week 29 a staggering 345 salmon were caught by 13 anglers including 26 fish over 20lbs and 1 fish over 30lbs!!

That was an exceptional week by any standards however it was a good reminder of just how varied and un-predictable a season can be.

PRIME WEEK - CAMP BONAVENTURE

Single rod -16-23 June 2019

It might look like an optical illusion, or a bit of photo-shop trickery, however this was a passing underwater shot as I floated down the Bonaventure River in a canoe last September. A heart warming sight for any salmon angler!

Spaces still remain on the WWMF week to Camp Bonaventure in mid-September. There has however been a cancellation for a single rod on what should be an exceptional and very highly sought after week in mid-June

The nature of the access to water on the Bonaventure, Petit and Grand Cascapedia means that beats are partially allocated following the lottery draw. 50% of the available water comes up for grabs in the November draw and to be able to get first shot at the best beats, bookings and subsequent applications need to be submitted by 29 Oct. If you are interested it will pay dividends to get booked in ASAP.

Those brought up on a diet of fabulous Scottish Rivers can only wring their hands in frustration at the recent series of disappointing seasons. Sadly I feel it has reached something of a tipping point for many die-hard groups. The good news is that the salmon fishing in Iceland has not suffered the same fate and remains one of the very best places where one can escape for a quick 3 day blast of action or longer!

Availability over the good Icelandic Rivers is however at an absolute premium and whist there remains a good scattering of openings, comparatively speaking, spaces are thin on the ground!
